Work Set To Begin On Pike Street Parking Lot

"Parking is scarce in the hamlet; we need to take advantage of any opportunities to improve and expand what we do have." — Scott Russell.

MATTITUCK, NY — Work is set to begin on the Pike Street parking lot in Mattituck, beginning on Tuesday, April 24.

To that end, the parking lot will be closed for approximately two weeks; all vehicles must be removed during that time.

The total cost of the project, Southold Town Government Liaison Denis Noncarrow said, is $76,000, with approximately $60,000 garnered from a Suffolk County downtown revitalization grant. The project encompasses making the parking lot ADA compliant, with about 15 extra spaces, as well as drainage work in the southeast corner, he said. Also included in the work will be new curbing and sidewalks, beginning on Tuesday, followed by the asphalt work.

The lot had been in need of drainage, upgrades and repairs for some time, Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell said. "Now that the town is the owner of the parking lot, we can make sure that these improvements get done. Parking is scarce in the hamlet so we need to take advantage of any opportunities that we can to improve and expand what we do have. We are grateful to Suffolk County Legislator Al Krupski, who was able to secure the funding for the grant."

Residents with questions are asked to call Noncarrow at 631-765-5806.
