Wrestling Explodes On North Fork With 'Lucha Rumble'

NORTH FORK, NY — Marc LaMaina, owner of the Lucharitos restaurants and Kevin Sage, his childhood friend and also the general manager of the Greenport Lucharitos, had a dream. The pair said the missed the "good old days when they were kids and could watch their wrestling heroes compete live at the local American Legion."

And so, they teamed up to transform their dream into reality and are bringing live professional wrestling back to the North Fork this July.

LaMaina joined forces with Greenport Harbor Brewing Co.’s founders John Liegey and Rich Vandenburgh as well as Long Island’s FTW Wrestling to create the first ever LuchaRumble — a live wrestling event at the Greenport Harbor Brewing Co. on Main Road in Peconic that takes place on Sunday, July 28 at 4 p.m.

LuchaRumble will be guest hosted by WWE Monday Night Raw Commentator Corey Graves. The event will feature eight matches of Fight the World wrestlers and kicks off at 4 p.m., LaMaina said.

"We wanted a super big kickoff for the Lucha Lager beer we brewed with Greenport Harbor Brewing Co," LaMaina said, adding that they organized a previous Cinco de Mayo event.

But their eyes were on the wrestling prize.

All involved have been organizing the wrestling event for more than a month, he said, adding that the event will be family friendly — with kids under 12 free.

"The talent that we have with Fight the World Wrestling is top notch; two of their wrestlers, Bryan Idol and Natalia Markova, both just appeared on the World Wrestling Entertainment's network's first ever live pay-per-view airing of WWE EVOLVE, a professional wrestling event. Our guest host Corey Graves is a super popular superstar of the WWE and a big fan of Lucharitos and Lucha Lager," LaMaina said.

And he's not the only one who can't wait for the action, LaMaina said.

"My kids are excited to get to see the ring up close and meet the wrestlers after the show. It's small town wrestling with some big time names."

Down the line, LaMaina said he's enthused to discuss the possibility of working with Greenport's American Legion Burton Potter Post 185 for future events — and would like to host others at the farm at his new Center Moriches location, currently preparing for an opening later this year.

"This is just the beginning of seeing wrestling back on the North Fork. And Lucharitos is proud to be a part of making it happen," LaMaina said.

The Lucharitos taco truck will be onsite featuring some special LuchaRumble eats including the brand new Ric Flair taco; Greenport Harbor Brewing Co. will be serving Lucha Lager, a special collaboration with Lucharitos.

$50 VIP tickets are available that include premium seats, complimentary Lucharitos hot sauce, a 16 oz. beer and a meet-and-greet with host Corey Graves. *Doors open at 3 pm.
