2 Women Steal $43K From Employer In Suffolk: Police
The women stole money from the company's bank deposits for months, police say.
EAST NORTHPORT, NY — Two women accused of stealing more than $43,000 from their employer during a nine-month period were arrested, Suffolk police said.
Elana Sofia, 29, of Port Jefferson, and Sandra Bonilla, 33, of Brentwood, while working for Goodwill Industries, located at 1900 Jericho Turnpike, East Northport, stole money from the company’s bank deposits from November 2020 until August, police said.
Sofia was arrested on Monday and Bonilla was arrested on Tuesday, police said. They were each charged with third-degree grand larceny.

Sofia was arraigned on Tuesday and Bonilla is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
"Goodwill NYNJ thanks the authorities for appropriately conducting the investigation of this isolated incident perpetrated against a venerable 106-year-old charity," Goodwill NYNJ wrote in a statement. "We are disappointed for this unfortunate issue at one of our stores, but are reassured that it will not stop our work of breaking employment barriers for people with disabilities and other disadvantages."
