Last year's race raised $160,000 for such veteran services as counseling, provision of veterans service dogs, housing, jobs, etc.

"We welcome all runners, of all abilities, to come out and honor those who have served their country," said Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone. "It is the least we can do for those who have sacrificed for us."

The race is scheduled for 8 a.m., starting and finishing in downtown Patchogue. The race is followed by the Taste of Long Island festival, which highlights food, wine and beer produced on Long Island.

Entertainment, such as local bands, Halloween-related activities and other events are also
planned.

"I love chasing miles and reporting back to my husband, and kiddos (Benjamin, 4yrs and Lincoln, 1.5 yes) how far I ran on any given day," she said. "Exercising and being healthy are important, quality keys to my happiness and well-being."
