NORTHPORT, NY — Four 1-year-old kittens — two bonded pairs — are still waiting for homes, according to Northport Cat Rescue Association.
“Four kittens. All love, resilience and still waiting,” the rescue said.
This week’s featured kittens are Remy and Bastian, and Lena and Phantom — two pairs who volunteers say have been consistently overlooked.
“They don’t understand why no one chooses them,” the rescue said. “Every day, the cages open — new kittens come in and go home. Families point, smile, fall in love… and these four just sit there watching.”
Remy and Bastian once had a home.
“They were thrown out like they didn’t matter and left on the curb,” the rescue said.
A mother cat — not their own — helped protect them until they could be rescued.
“A mama cat who wasn’t even theirs stepped in and kept them safe until help came,” the rescue said.
But as time went on, others were adopted.
“One by one, everyone else was chosen — the mama, her babies, even their brother,” the rescue said. “Remy and Bastian stayed behind.”
Now about a year old, volunteers say they are still waiting.
“They’ve never known what it feels like to be chosen,” the rescue said. “And they are silly, sweet boys full of love who adore people and other cats.”
Phantom and Lena have a different story — but an equally strong bond.
“They’ve only ever had each other,” the rescue said.
Phantom required medical care early on.
“He was quietly suffering in pain and needed surgery to remove his teeth,” the rescue said.
Through it all, Lena stayed close.
“She never left his side — not once,” the rescue said. “She stayed curled beside him, keeping him safe.”
Now, volunteers say Phantom is beginning to recover emotionally.
“He’s learning joy again because she showed him he could,” the rescue said.
Like Remy and Bastian, Lena and Phantom have spent their entire lives in rescue.
“They are growing up in a cage,” the rescue said. “They have been with us their entire first year of life.”
All four kittens are described as affectionate and social.
“They adore people. They love other cats,” the rescue said. “They just need a chance.”
Despite that, the rescue says they have received no interest.
“No applications. No one asking for them,” the organization said. “Just being overlooked while everyone else goes home.”
Volunteers say that doesn’t have to be their story.
“It doesn’t have to be their whole life,” the rescue said. “Please share them, tell someone, help them be seen.”
All four kittens are currently available for adoption at Petco in Commack.
“Each pair is hoping with every visitor, it will be their turn,” the rescue said.
“Because somewhere, their person is out there… they just haven’t found them yet.”
Remy and Bastian, along with Lena and Phantom, are neutered and spayed, fully vaccinated, litter box–trained, microchipped, and FELV/FIV negative.
Those interested in meeting them can visit Petco in Commack, apply through the Northport Cat Rescue Association website, call 631-606-2631, or email info@northportcatrescue.org.
