Northport-East Northport Voters Approve $195.1M School Budget

NORTHPORT, NY — Northport-East Northport Union Free School District voters approved the district’s proposed $195,126,448 budget for the 2026-27 school year Tuesday, along with one capital proposition and Board of Education races.

The approved budget carries a 2.26 percent tax levy increase, remaining within the district’s allowable tax levy cap for the 15th consecutive year.

District officials said the spending plan maintains academic, athletic, arts and extracurricular programming while continuing districtwide capital improvements, security upgrades and technology investments.

The budget included funding for roof and HVAC repairs and replacements districtwide, electrical upgrades at East Northport Middle School, districtwide security and communications upgrades, auditorium renovations and the purchase of three gasoline-powered school buses.

Propositions

Proposition 2, which authorized the district to spend $2 million from the Capital Reserve Fund for districtwide roof replacements and HVAC renovations, was approved by voters, 2,020-1,022.

Proposition 3, which would have authorized the district to purchase property at 24 Railroad Ave. in East Northport for use as a transportation facility, failed, 1,353-1,657.

Board Of Education Election

There were two open seats on the Board of Education.

Donna McNaughton, the only candidate whose name appeared on the ballot, won re-election with 1,947 votes.

East Northport resident Carl Lawrence secured the second open seat through the write-in process, receiving 723 votes.

East Northport residents Mark Zaharis received 625 votes, while Denise Schwartz received 188 votes.

District officials said election results remain unofficial pending certification by the district clerk.
