10-Year-Old Bonded Brothers Seek Quiet Home: Northport Kitties Of The Week

NORTHPORT, NY — Campy and Danny, 10-year-old bonded brothers whose story is one of “heartbreak, resilience, and hope,” are Northport Cat Rescue Association’s Cats of the Week.

The gentle brothers spent their entire lives with an elderly owner who loved them, but who became overwhelmed caring for more cats than he could manage, the rescue said.

“As time passed, Campy and Danny were left longing for the simple comforts every cat deserves — regular brushing, medical care, and the loving attention they craved,” Northport Cat Rescue Association volunteers said.

When their owner died, no one realized that several cats had been left behind, according to the rescue. By the time rescuers were called, the conditions were heartbreaking.

“Poor Danny’s nails had grown so long they painfully curled into his paw pads,” the rescue said. “Torn bags of food littered the floors, and overflowing litter boxes stood as quiet proof that these sweet souls were still trying their best to stay clean and survive despite unimaginable neglect.”

Several rescues stepped in to help the remaining cats, and Northport Cat Rescue Association welcomed Campy and Danny. The brothers were found “curled up tightly together, clinging to the only comfort they had left: each other,” the rescue said.

Since entering foster care, Campy and Danny have begun to heal.

“With patience, proper medical care, and love, they have healed both physically and emotionally,” the rescue said.

The brothers are still shy and reserved, but they accept gentle pets and respond to kindness with soft purrs, according to the rescue.

Now, Campy and Danny are looking for a quiet, loving home where they can spend their golden years together “safe, cherished, and never alone again,” the rescue said.

They are currently staying at Petco Huntington, where the rescue said they are understandably “a little sad and confused” after another major change in their lives.

Visitors are encouraged to stop by and spend time with them. Campy and Danny especially enjoy soft voices, gentle affection, and calm companionship.

Campy and Danny are neutered, fully vaccinated, litter box trained, microchipped, and FELV/FIV negative.
