Northport Woman Drowns In Backyard Pool: Police

NORTHPORT, NY — An 87-year-old woman drowned in a backyard swimming pool at her Northport home Wednesday morning, Suffolk County police said.

Second Precinct officers responded to a home on Devon Place at about 7:55 a.m. Wednesday after a 911 caller reported that a woman had been found unresponsive in an in-ground pool, police said.

The woman, identified by police as Eileen Specht, 87, lived at the home. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the death.

Detectives believe the incident was non-criminal in nature, police said.
