Suffolk Man With Pellet Rifle Shot Dead By Officers: PD

EAST NORTHPORT, NY — An East Northport man was shot dead by police Sunday night after he pointed a pellet rifle at officers and threatened to shoot, authorities said.

Second Precinct police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a violent domestic dispute at a Grant Street home at 10:08 p.m., police said. When officers arrived, Jeffrey McClure, a resident of the home, pointed a gun at the officers, who left the residence, police said.

McClure, 26, then climbed on the roof and ignored officers' commands to drop the gun, which the officers thought was a hunting rifle, police said. McClure threatened to shoot and pointed the gun at officers, at which point he was shot, police said. He was pronounced dead at the home, police said.
