EATONS NECK, NY — A lifeguard saved two children and their grandmother from drowning at Hobart Beach in Eatons Neck on Friday afternoon.

A 5-year-old boy and another child were in the water when their grandmother thought they were struggling, Cable Jamison, the Town of Huntington director of parks and recreation, told Patch. The woman went to save her grandkids when she started struggling.

Dylan Fox, a lifeguard, pulled the trio out of the water with a rescue buoy, according to Jamison, who called Fox's actions "heroic."

"We take so many things for granted in our lives," Jamison said. "Our young people who work for us who go through all these trainings and certifications, they put a lot of time in and a lot of work. I'm proud of [Fox] and what he did. He saved some lives. He should be commended. This is a big example of how important these jobs are. Sometimes people take it for granted."

Ed Smyth, supervisor of the Town of Huntington, said he is very proud of Fox and all the town's lifeguards.
