Tigers 16 vs Half Hollow Hills Pride 12
This was a game that had everything. High winds, heavy rain, and everyone on the edge of their seats. After the teams exchanged turnovers the Pride scored a touchdown. The Tigers marched down the field only to be stymied by the Pride defense at the 2 yard line. Jacob Buell caught the running back in the end zone for a safety making the score 6-2 at halftime. A big run by Jacob Lubeck set up a touchdown . The Pride answered right back. Late in the 4th quarter on a 4th down Jack Sandrib raced 50 yards up the sideline for a Tiger touchdown. The Pride were not done yet. Michael Meyer made not one but two game saving tackles with the second one being on the 2 yard line as time expired. We have to mention the great work by the offensive line and the great tackling by Jack Tamborski.

7/8 BLUE
Tigers 19 vs Connetquot 0

In the first game of the season the 7/8 year old Northport Tigers Blue Team came out in roaring fashion.  The offense was led by QB's Tom "Joe Cool" Butler and Tim "The Cat" Kirschner.  Tim Kirschner ran for two touchdowns, one extra point and completed one 25 yard pass to Ryan "Mac Attack" McEnroe.  The third touchdown was a 25 yard romp by fullback Owen "Bulldozer" Johansen as he blasted his way through the defense.

This was all made possible by the tremendous offensive line blocking of Robert "tie 'em up" McKinley, Michael "Yes Coach" Tittman, Tim "who can I hit" Cleary, Caleb "Sneak Attack" Hamada, Jack "Mr. Steady" Rykert and Landon "It's all Good" Rosales.  The defense shut down the Connetquot offense with bone-crushing tackles led by defensive stand out Joe "Lasagna" DiChiaro breaking up virtuallualy most of Connetquot's plays.

The defensive line and linebackers crew of Walter "Bulldog" Zalek, Garret "Go Get 'em" Warren, Hudson "give me the ball" Cobe, Roane "Ice Cream Cone"  Lembo and Chandler "On the Low" Arnold kept the Connetquot offense in check.

The team dedicated its first win to Will "The Thrill" Murphy who injured his shoulder in a pre-season scrimmage game two weeks ago and has been placed on injured reserve.  However, Will has been retained by team as the Offensive Co-Ordinator and Quarterback Coach for the remainder of the season.

Tigers 0 vs Three Village 9
Northport lost their season opener but played tough against a very good Three Village Team.  After Three Village recorded a safety early in the 1st quarter, the game was back and forth.  Northport defense led by Ethan Koenig, Robbie Kennedy, Emerson Payne and Mike Catrone kept us in the game. The second half started with a textbook offensive drive led by fullback Andrew Argyris, with key blocking from the line of Vincent Gaddis, Gavin O'Malley, Andrew Blom and Justin Baskam.  Unfortunately the drive stalled at the 19 yard line and couldn't get any closer.  Three Village then added their only touchdown with 4 minutes left in the game.

Tigers 12 vs Half Hollow Hills 28
Northport faced off against Half Hollow Hills on Sunday.  Nrpt started with the ball and moved it down field.  An awesome block by Zack Evans allowed a 28 yard end around by Ryan Bell for the first TD of the game.  Joe Evans tackled the HHH halfback for a 5 yard loss.  HHH barreled through our line but a great tackle by Ryan Farrington and Angelo Prestipino allowed only a few yards gain.  Despite some good efforts HHH scored.  A fumble recovery by Aaron Winnegar kept Nrpt in the game.   A good punt by Nrpt but the powerful HHH couldn’t be taken down.  An excellent tackle by Connor Gallagher and Thomas Serra caused a loss of 9 yards.  Thomas McDonagh shot through the gap for another good tackle by Nrpt.  Some quality blocking by Jake Serroen , Matt Powers and Connor Higgins.  In the last play of the game Tyler Florio, Christian Pastore and Bruce Peden hit the HHH lineman from all sides causing him to fumble the ball which was picked up by Ryan Bell and run in for the final touchdown.  Nrpt may have lost but fought hard till the end.

Tigers 6 vs Three Village 0

Highlights: In a battle between two tough defenses, the Northport Tigers defeated the Three Village Wildcats 6-0 on Sunday. The Wildcats started the game with a 10+ play drive that consumed the entire first quarter but the aggressive Tigers defense caused a Wildcat fumble. The Tigers defense - with strong efforts from Jack Fernandez, Justice Felice, Tobin Centamore and Gavin Teiner - handed the ball over to an offense that proceeded to march down the field led by strong running from Nicholas DeMarco. After a long run by DeMarco that was stopped at the 1 yard line, fullback Ryan Hutton punched in the touchdown for what turned out to be the deciding score.

After the TD, the highlight of the second quarter was fantastic interception by Tiger cornerback Jimmy Atkinson - who stepped picked off the only pass of the game. For the rest of the half, the teams traded possessions without many offensive fireworks given good play by both defenses.

The Tiger offense was able to control the ball much of the third quarter thanks to the excellent play of the offensive line including Andrew Tittman, Jude Anton, Louis Fiorino, Devin Locker and Jacob Starcke.  In the fourth quarter, the Wildcats took over possession deep in Tiger territory but great team defense held off the late charge and clinched the victory.

Anthony Bettano, John Chapman, Ethan Jolly, Max McElroy, Luke Rizzo and William Tyska also made solid contributions to a great team effort and the first Tiger victory of 2012.

 Tigers 18 vs Hauppauge 6
Highlight:  Northport started the season in tremendous fashion behind the dominant running of last year’s team MVP Full Back Shane “The Train” Finkelstein, Tail Back’s Max Romano and Ryan Parker all three finding the end zone on Sunday. Finkelstein, Romano and Parker also had major roles in the near perfect performance of the Tiger defense. Quarterback Anthony Vozza commanded the Tiger offense on perfectly executed time consuming drives throughout the game. Vozza also contributed on defense with a Quarterback Sack from the Defensive End position. The running game could not have been successful without the great offensive line play of Michael Morreale, Quinlan Finnegan, Ted Kavanagh, Fran Braun and James Alden leading the charge and clearing the holes for the running backs all day long. The Wide Receivers Stephen Wyhowanec, Paul Peragallo and Dillon Brown made perfect downfield blocks paving the way throughout the game for long runs by Finkelstein, Romano and Parker.

Wing Back and Linebacker Larry Citrola had a tremendous game on both sides of the ball helping the Tiger Defense keep the game out of reach all day for the opponent.  Last year’s Coaches Award winner Defensive End and Tight End Thomas Sandrib picked up right where he left off last season making key blocks on offense and providing dominant defensive play from the Defensive End position.

The interior defensive line play of John McMorrow, William Hummel, William Cuttita and Anthony Canales and Defensive End Nicholas Serra shut down any hope Hauppauge had of ever being able to come back in the game.

The Defensive Backfield led by the outstanding play of Brian Truehart, Sean D'Amaro and Michael Bokina kept continuous up field pressure on the Hauppauge offense and stopped any hope of a passing game. This was a great overall team win and a fantastic way to start the season after the dedication and commitment put forward by the players all summer long.

11 Yr. Old Black Tigers
Tigers 6 vs. Sayville 0

Friday Night under the light saw Northport’s 11 year old BLACK team locked in a tight defensive matchup vs. Sayville. Northport opened the game with a 9 play 54 yard that saw solid runs from RBs Sal Miccio and Jake Bonomi.  Sayville defense would tighten up and after Northport opening drive stalled it was up to Northport D to set the tone. On Sayville first offensive play they did just that with a vicious hit by NG Josh Taylor and OLB Jake Bonomi forcing a fumble which was recovered by Jake Bonomi.
Northport’s offense took advantage of this turnover.  QB Ben Sandt made a great pass to TE Nick Ford to set up RB Jake Bonomi 9 yard run into the end zone giving Northport the lead.  The extra point kick was no good keeping the score Northport 6 Sayville 0.  The rest of the 1st half saw the defenses take over with more big hits and tackles made by Northport’s D… DE Justin Schmeiser, DE Jeremy Gerdvil, NG Josh Taylor, DT Nick Tabert, DT Sean Nelson, LB Justin Gerdvil, LB Ryan Smith, and S Chris Gessner.
The second half would be a dogfighgt with both defenses not allowing either team to move the ball.  With time winding down late in the 4th quarter Sayville forced a fumble giving them the opportunity they needed.  Sayville offense took over at the Northport 20 yard line and would drive down to the 2 yard line with less than 45 seconds left in the game.  Northport’s defense which was stifling all day would be put to the test.  With less than 1 min left in the game Sayville had a 1st and goal from the 7.  After 3 plays the game would come down to 4th and Goal from the 5 with 35 seconds left in the game.  Sayville went to the rollout pass but OLB Ryan Smith came up forcing the QB to throw before he wanted to and the ball fell harmlessly to the ground to preserve the win and shutout.

11 Year Old Red
Tigers  12 vs Kings Park 12
The 11 year old Red team travelled to Kings Park on Saturday.  The Tigers won the toss and mounted a 17 play, 70 yard drive capped off by a 3 yard blast over the right side by Ian Melamerson who followed a lead block by Grady O'Neill and the other dominant lineman including Dan Melamerson, Guy Davis, Joe Giardina, Alex Pica, Tanner Lindvall and Will Loeber.  The pass attempt form Will Chisholm to Tanner Lindvall narrowly missed.  With a 6-0 lead, the Tigers started the second quarter on Defense.  With blistering tackles by Matt Fuggini, Brice Higgins, Ryan Gillam, Joe Bilello, Sterling Thompson and Dan Kearns, the Tigers were able to stop the Kingsmen.  Northport went back on Offense and with runs by Grady O'Neill, Liam Caulfield, Patrick Denunzio, and Matt Fuggini, were able to drive the ball down to the 11 yard line where Ian Melamerson took the pitch around end to put the Tiger up 12-0.  The extra point again failed.  Northport’s defense again held the Kings Park Squad to a three and out.   With 2 minutes in the half.  Will Chisholm, at QB, mounted a furious 2 minute drill and came up just short on the three yard line on a pitch to Ian Melamerson to end the half.  The start of the second half saw Kings Park open up their passing game.  Cornerbacks Matt Fuggini, Patrick Denunzio, Liam Caulfield and Tanner Lindvall made great touchdown saving plays in the secondary and held the opposing offense in check.  Kings Park however was not done.  after a three and out by Northport, Kings Park began to score, putting two touchdowns on the board in the last 12 minutes of the game despite the great play of Henry Miller, Chris Mignanelli, Aidan Ryan, Aidan Jolly and Brian Hillman who also did a great job backing up at center on offense.  With the score knotted at 12, Northport took possession of the ball and drove 45 yards, highlighted by a 4th and 17 yard run by Ian Melamerson to keep the drive alive.  Unfortunately the clock ran out on the Tiger offense and the game ended in a 12 -12 tie.  Come out and see the greatest show on turf next week when the 11 year old Red team returns home at Vets field.

 Northport 6  North Shore 12
Highlights:  The start of the season started off a little slow.  Northport on its first series couldn’t move the ball all that well and turned it over on downs.  North Shore on its first play ran it in for a touch down.  Northport not ready.  North Shore scored again later in the second quarter with Northport letting the runner get to the outside and in for the touchdown.  The team hurting with the loss of it DE Bobby Cogeletti.
The second half began, and Northport did a complete turn around.  The defense of Anastasopoulos, Atkinson, Bruno, Cole, D’Amaro,  Fortuna, Kenny, Labatto, Martinov, Parker, Schopp, Shaw, Starcke and Webber were running on all cylinders, Northshore could not move the ball at all. The offense fed of this, and the big dogs up front ( the offensive lineman), Boyle, Shaw, Cole Anastopoulos, Fortuna, Labatto, Parker, and Martinov were making holes big enough to drive a bus thru, and that bus that went in for a touchdown was the Bobby Bruno bus  in the early third quarter to put us down by 6.  The fourth quarter started and the running back stables of Bruno, D’Amaro, Kenny, Labatto, Schopp, Starcke and Weber, ran all over North Shores defense, but the game ended 20 yards away from winning the game. Clock 0:00.
Started off slow but ended very strong, that will definitely carry into next Sunday’s game verse Three Village.  Great Game Boys.
