Northport Youth Football Game Recpas and Scores October 27th and 28th

Game Recaps and Scores

7-8 yr old Red
Tigers 0 Hurricanes 0
Some things are worth the trip. The Tigers took their 6-1 record and made the trek out to West Hampton to take on an undefeated Hurricane team. The Tigers won the coin toss and elected to take the ball. After a long methodical drive the Tigers turned the ball over on the Hurricanes 20 yard line. After a long run the Tigers defense extinguished the Hurricanes drive on 4 plays and took over on their own 35. Again the Tigers had a long drive that resulted in a fumble loss. The Tigers defense was up to the task and recovered a Hurricane fumble. The Tigers took over at midfield but the half quickly ran out on them with a stalemate. The second half was about both teams’ defensive units in particular the Tiger’s. Neither team was able to muster much offense. The Tigers were able to get many first downs but never got the big play to get in to the end zone. The defense completely stymied the Hurricanes offense. They let up 2 runs of 20 yards but little else. This was a classic display of one unit picking up the other and something the Tigers did all year. When they allowed points the offense picked up the "D". This was a great season and many thanks to our dedicated coaching staff who were always there for the Tigers and mixed in some really fun drills for them.
Season Record 6-1-1

Northport 18 vs.  Longwood 7
Pushing their season record to 4-3-1, the Tigers dominated Longwood from the first snap.  If not for a couple early miscues on offense, the Tigers could have put the game away in the first quarter.  The team's defense was absolutely suffocating with an incredible 13 tackles behind the line of scrimmage.  Robby Kennedy, probably the team's defensive MVP on the day, had 4, Justin Baskam had 3, Andrew Argyris had 2 and Ryan Wagner, Emerson Payne, Gavin O'Malley and Vinnie Bruno each had one.  Baskam also had a great game with a fumble recovery and several excellent plays from his Linebacker spot.  Also playing well on both sides of the ball was Tristan Triolo, who played well at Defensive End and had an impressive gain on the ground on an end-around on offense.  There were two potential touchdown-saving open-field tackles. Rafe Carner had one continuing his usual outstanding defensive play, and even Quarterback/Safety Tommy Fitzgerald got in on the act chipping in with one.  Offensively, the Tigers, as usual, were led by excellent offensive line play led by Center Vincent Gaddis, Guards Justin Baskam and Andrew Blom, Tackles Gavin O'Malley and Ethan Koenig, and Ends Tristan Triolo and Ryan Wagner.  The Tigers scored on a 10-yard run by Fullback Vinnie Bruno, a 20-yard run by Halfback Andrew Argyris, and a Quarterback sneak on a silent count by Tommy Fitzgerald.  Also contributing with good play on both sides of the ball were Mikey Catrone, Joey Gonzalez and Isiah Headley.  The Tigers look to continue their excellent play this coming Sunday at Eastport.  Season Record 4-3-1

Tigers 7 vs. Half Hollow Hills 0
A bizarre bit of scheduling had the Tigers squaring off against Half Hollow Hills for the second week in a row after a hard fought Tiger 20-12 victory on Oct 21st.  This game was tough defensive battle with Northport pulling out a 7-0 victory.
There was no scoring in the first half as each team’s defense came ready to play in the cold, windy, pre-hurricane conditions at Half Hallow Hills West HS. The Tiger defense was anchored by exceptional play up front by Max Brustmeyer and great tackling by Jude Anton, Ryan Hutton, Devin Locker and Andrew Tittmann. The rest of the Tiger defense - behind strong play from Atkinson, Centamore, Chapman, DeMarco, McElroy, Starcke, Teiner and Tyska - helped seal the shutout for the Tigers.
On the Hills first offensive possession of the second half, Jude Anton recovered a fumble to set up Northport with excellent field position. Strong blocking up front from Bettano, Dowd, Fiorino and Fernandez set up a beautiful 20 yard play action touchdown pass from Luke Rizzo to tight end Justice Felice. Rizzo ran in the extra point to put the Tigers ahead 7-0. After exchanging possessions for most of the second half with not much success, Hills took over on their own 40 with just over a minute to play. After a few short runs, a Hills RB busted into the free and up the sideline for what appeared to be a potential game tying TD but Devin Locker – from his nose guard position – hustled down the field and made a game saving tackle inside the Northport 20 yard line to preserve the Tiger victory.

Tigers 13 vs. Pat-Med 6
A hungry Pat-Med team, eager to win in the rematch against the Tigers, scored 6 points in the opening drive. The Tigers rally at the end of the 2nd quarter fell short by 5 yards from the end zone sending them scoreless into the half.
Coach Jim "Red Bull" Raio got the Tiger's fired up during the half time inspiring the defense to turn the game around.  With fumble recoveries by Adian Amarenti and Sean Walsh, a key 4th and 7 sacks by John West and a big push backwards by nose guard Luke Cacic, the Tigers stopped the Pat-Med momentum. The run game by John Kippley, Tommy Launinger, and Brent Biernick set the Tigers up for a 2 yard quarterback sneak TD by Sean Walsh and a 40 yard run TD by Tommy Launinger to secure the win for the now 7-0 Tigers.

Tigers 20 vs. Deer Park 12
Highlight:  Northport beat Deer Park Saturday night in their toughest fight of the year. It was a great team effort with significant contributions from every member of the team. The Tigers were able to jump out to a 7-0 lead behind the tough running of Full Back Shane Finkelstein, who was able to pound the Deer Park defense with his inside running. With the Tigers offensive line down players due to injury, Larry Citrola and Max Romano came up big playing out of position most of the game on offense but were able to ensure the Tigers did not miss a beat. The Tigers defense played their best game of the year lead by Linebackers Finkelstein, Romano, Citrola Defensive End Tommy Sandrib, Cornerback’s Brian Truehart, Joseph Sierra Michael Bokina Safety Sean D'Amaro and interior line of Dillon Brown, William Hummel and Paul Peragallo. While the Tigers were up 7-6 late in the 3rd quarter Tail Back Ryan Parker took the ball around the right end and with great blocking from the offensive line of Michael Morreale, James Alden, Quinlan Finnegan and Fran Braun, Parker was able to add the Tigers second touchdown of the night. However, Deer Park came back strong and scored on their next possession. In the  key defensive play of the game the Tigers led by Linebackers Finkelstein, Romano and Defensive End Tommy Sandrib stuffed the Deer Park extra point and kept the Tigers lead at 13-12 with four minutes left in the game. On the Tigers next possession they put the game out of reach when Quarterback Anthony Vozza took the ball around the right side and after a key block from Wide Receiver Stephen Wyhowanec ran fifty yards for the Tigers last touchdown of the night and sealing the victory for the Tigers.
 Season Record: 7-1
