Water, Climate, and Environment Forum Free to the Public

Water, Climate, and Environment: Policy at the Crossroads is the theme for a free, three-hour, multifaceted public event at the South Huntington Public Library (145 Pidgeon Hill Road, Huntington Station) on Wednesday, May 6. Extending from 5:30-8:30 p.m., it will feature short individual talks by knowledgeable speakers who will also engage in a panel discussion with audience participation. Co-presented by Democracy Forward Long Island and Adelphi University, local environmental organizations are also being invited to participate and share educational information.

Confirmed speakers include:

Steven Englebright, MS (Suffolk County Legislator, professor of geology at Stony Brook University, and former chairman of the New York State Assembly’s Committee on Environmental Conservation)

Ryan Wallace, Ph.D. (assistant professor of environmental studies and science at Adelphi University)

Aaren Freeman, Ph.D. (professor in Adelphi University’s department of environmental studies and biology)

Sarah Meyland, MS and JD (retired professor of environmental law at NYIT), who will both moderate and participate in the panel discussion.

Topics to be discussed include climate change and the role of federal and local legislation; water-quality issues on Long Island, including current research on water quality in our bays and aquifers as well as possible solutions to water-related problems; and marine biology, including human-caused changes to coastal ecosystems, invasive species, and restoration efforts.
