Centerport Yacht Club To Host 36rd Annual Vanderbilt Cup Regatta

Regatta Party at the Vanderbilt Museum to Feature Live Music from the Just Cause Band and Raffles to Benefit the Museum.

On Saturday, October 1, Centerport Yacht Club and The Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum will host the 36th Annual William K. Vanderbilt II Memorial Cup Race in honor of one of Centerport’s most famous resident yachtsmen.

Open to all area sailors, The Vanderbilt Cup was established by Centerport Yacht Club Past Commodore
Albert P. Rosanes in 1981 in conjunction with the Vanderbilt Museum. To be eligible to race, a boat must
possess a valid Yacht Racing Association of Long Island Sound (YRALIS) PHRF certificate, a valid one-design
certificate, or receive a temporary waiver and handicap rating from the event organizer — for more information, please see the Notice of Race and visit YRALIS PHRF Racing.

The race will begin at 11:00 a.m. in Huntington Bay in the area of Bell “8,” and will finish in Northport Bay with a
glorious view of "Eagle's Nest," William K. Vanderbilt II’s stunning Spanish Revival mansion and Gold Coast
retreat. Racers and their guests are then invited to the mansion for the Regatta Party to enjoy food, drinks and
live music from the Just Cause band under the stars in Vanderbilt's Spanish Courtyard.

Family and friends of the racing skippers and crew are encouraged to come to the Vanderbilt Museum early
that day to explore this jewel of our community, watch the race finish in Northport Harbor from the lawn, take a
Mansion Tour and then join the Regatta Party beginning at 5:00 p.m.

“Last year, a major storm blew the race down, but we had one heck of a ‘hurricane party’ inside at the
Vanderbilt Planetarium! This year, we will be back on the race course and back in the Vanderbilt Museum’s

beautiful Spanish courtyard, and we hope to haven even more sailors joining us this year,” said Erik H. Rosanes, Vice Commodore of the Centerport Yacht Club and Principal Race Officer for the event. “The Vanderbilt Cup is a great way to honor the legacy of one of Centerport’s most famous yachtsman, while also helping the Vanderbilt Museum ensure that Willie K.’s mansion, marine and natural history museum, planetarium and park will continue to be dedicated to the education and enjoyment of the people of Long Island and beyond for years to come.”

The Regatta Entry Fee is $75.00 for US Sailing members ($80.00 non-members) includes admission to the Party for Skipper and 4 Crew members. Regatta Party admission for additional Crew members is $15.00, and $20.00 per person for non-racing Guests.
