Cergol Honors Northport Teen Swimming Champion

Congrats to Northport High School junior Chloe Stepanek!

From The City of Huntington:Huntington Councilwoman Joan Cergol, at the February 13 Town Board meeting, honored Northport High School junior Chloe Stepanek for her accomplishments in becoming a national champion competitive swimmer.

Chloe, who is a member of the Northport-Commack girls’ swim team, recently successfully defended her state titles in the 200-yard and 100-yard freestyle events and was named the outstanding athlete of the swimming and diving championships. She followed that up the next month competing in the U.S. Winter National Championships in Greensboro, N.C., where she recorded the fastest time of any swimmer 18 years old or younger in the 200-meter freestyle and was crowned the 18-and-under national champion.

As Chloe and her coach, Drew Modrov, listened, Councilwoman Cergol detailed Chole’s rigorous training regimen that had helped produce her success and the way she balances that against completing her school work.

“These are wonderful accomplishments,” Councilwoman Cergol said, as she handed the swimmer a proclamation signed by her and her board colleagues, “but we are looking forward to even more from you. We hope we will be able to see you in the pool at an Olympics, if not next year in Tokyo, then in Paris in 2024. So, congratulations, Chloe, and good luck! We’ll be watching and rooting for you.”
