Coming March 1: 8th Annual Rotary Soles4Souls Shoe Drive

Annual shoe drive by Northport and East Northport Rotarys with support from local schools, churches, business. Over 60 drop-off locations.

Spring cleaning is almost here. Need closet space? Need an excuse to go shoe shopping? Share your used shoes with those who have none. Children need shoes to get to school if they are lucky, or walk miles for water if not so. Adults need shoes to get and perform work. Any kind of shoes, including boots, sandals, and high heels are needed. Donated shoes go to people in need in the U.S. and around the world due to disaster or crushing poverty.

Northport Rotary & East Northport Rotary will hold their 8th Annual Soles4Souls shoe drive March 1 031, 2017. For information on Soles4Souls see the following link https:\\www.youtube.com/user/s...

We encourage you to set aside used shoes for deposit in on over 60 drop-locations at schools, churches, business and others. Locations will be announced March1st.

Soles4Souls has collected over 2 million pairs of shoes per year for many years for distribution worldwide. Northport and East Northport Rotaries have collected over 50,000 pairs over the past seven years, 20,000 last year. Most shoes end up in landfills, adding to pollution, when they could be allowing a child to get to school or an adult to work.

"We have been overwhelmed by the community support we have received over the last few years," said Anita Thomas. Anita and her husband, Bill, first organized the drive in 2010 and continue to lead it. They went to Costa Rica in 2014 to see the program in action first hand in a remote village. "It is difficult not be touched when you see the smiles and joy of children getting something so basic as a pair of shoes." Soles4Souls was formed by Wayne Elsey in response to the tsunami in South-East Asia in 2004 and provided thousands of pairs in the aftermath of Katrina. The U.S . need is a priority.

Want to help but have no shoes? It costs about a dollar to prepare and distribute a pair of shoes. You can contribute to the effort by a contribution to Soles4Souls via Northport Rotary's webside, www.northportrotary.com, using the Donate button (recommend browsers other than Safari), or directly to www.soles4souls.org.
