Couple Saved From Burning Suffolk Home

The house was engulfed in flame when first responders arrived early Friday. Two officers suffered smoke inhalation while saving the woman.

EAST NORTHPORT, NY — First responders saved a married couple from their burning East Northport home early Friday, Suffolk police said.

The Penfield Drive home was engulfed in flames when Officers Shane Wild and Steven Capogna got there.

The officers placed a ladder against a window of the house, climbed the ladder, lifted a woman out of the window, and carried her to safety. The woman’s husband was freed from the house by members of the Commack Fire Department.

Wild and Capogna were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation. The homeowners were not injured.

Suffolk County Police Arson Section detectives are investigating the fire's cause.
