Diesel, Found In Freezing Truck Yard, Seeks Home: Northport Kitty Of The Week
A 2-year-old cat rescued after surviving beneath a truck during the winter is now waiting for a home at Petco Commack.

NORTHPORT, NY — Diesel, a 2-year-old cat rescued after surviving beneath a truck during one of the coldest stretches of winter, is Northport Cat Rescue Association’s Cat of the Week.
“Diesel’s journey from surviving a harsh winter beneath a truck to becoming a loving companion is a story of resilience, trust, and second chances,” the rescue said.
The handsome cat was discovered living under a truck in a local trucking yard during freezing weather, NCRA said. Facing bitter temperatures and uncertain conditions, Diesel relied on his instincts — and eventually, the kindness of someone who noticed him.

A man who worked nearby began trying to earn Diesel’s trust.
“Day after day, Diesel would cautiously approach him, slowly forming a bond,” the rescue said.

With patience, compassion and determination, the man gained Diesel’s confidence, allowing rescuers to bring him to safety, according to NCRA.
Once Diesel entered foster care, his personality began to emerge.
“Diesel’s personality truly began to shine,” said rescue volunteer Lora Wild.
The rescue said Diesel would do best as the only pet in a home, describing him as a cat who “prefers to be the sole ruler of his kingdom.”
But what Diesel needs in space from other animals, he makes up for in affection toward people, the rescue said.

He loves attention, settles happily into laps and enjoys spending time with his favorite people. Unlike many cats, Diesel does not mind being picked up and welcomes opportunities for extra cuddles, according to NCRA.
When he is not soaking up affection, Diesel can often be found perched by a window, watching the world outside.
The rescue described him as playful, loving and striking.
“His playful antics, loving disposition, and striking good looks make him an unforgettable companion,” NCRA said.
After enduring the cold alone, Diesel is ready for the warm, loving home he deserves, the rescue said.
Diesel can be visited at Petco Commack. Those interested in adopting him can also visit the Northport Cat Rescue Association website to complete an adoption application, call 631-606-2631 or email info@northportcatrescue.org.
“For anyone searching for a devoted feline friend, Diesel may be the perfect match,” the rescue said.
