Disabled Elderly Woman Rescued From Eaton's Neck House Fire
A Suffolk County police officer and a good samaritan carried the woman to safety Wednesday afternoon, police said.
EATON’S NECK, NY- An 88-year-old woman in a wheelchair was rescued from an Eaton’s Neck house fire Wednesday afternoon thanks to a good samaritan and a Suffolk County police officer.
Officer Matthew Funaro responded to a report of a house fire on Old Winkle Point Road and found flames and heavy smoke coming from the second floor of the home at 4:45 p.m., police said.
Funaro entered the home through a sliding door and found the elderly woman on the first floor of the home in the living room.

The officer and a good samaritan, 55-year-old Kings Park resident Joseph Cartelli, who was performing work in the home carried the woman outside to safety, police said.
The woman was transported to Huntington Hospital where she was treated for minor and non-life threatening injuries.

Eaton’s Neck Fire Department and Northport Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.
Arson Section detectives are investigating the cause of the fire. The investigation is continuing.
