Caravan Park Of East Northport To Be Renamed For Army Specialist Killed In Action

Edward Fryer Jr. died serving in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously for his service. The renaming is slated for Saturday.

EAST NORTHPORT, NY — An East Northport park will be renamed in memory of a U.S. Army specialist who was killed in action in Vietnam.

Caravan Park will bear the name of Edward A. Fryer Jr. at a ceremony scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday. The park is on Caravan Drive. Town officials will join the Fryer family for an event open to the public.

Fryer was killed in action in November of 1968 while serving in Vietnam. He was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously for his service.

Fryer and his family moved to Pamela Lane in East Northport in the spring of 1960. He often played in Caravan Park with his siblings and neighborhood friends as a child. He briefly worked for the Town of Huntington in the Sanitation Department before being deployed in 1967.
