East Northport Remembers 9/11 With Memorial Service

A recap of a service to #NeverForget.

The East Northport Fire Department’s 14th annual Sept. 11 Memorial Service took place on Friday at their 9/11 Memorial Monument, which is set around an eight-foot, 8,000-pound steel beam from the World Trade Center.

To honor those who lost their lives on this tragic day:

  • Chief Wayne Kaifler Jr. welcomed firefighters and members of the community, which was followed by an opening prayer from chaplain William Bootz.
  • Sirens were sounded at the time of the south tower collapse.
  • Firefighters read the names of the victims.
  • Sirens were then sounded to mark the collapse of the north tower.
  • An engine with a memorial banner naming the 9/11 victims was displayed under East Northport and Northport ladder trucks.
  • The Northport High School Tights sang the “National Anthem” and “America the Beautiful.”
  • The Marine Corps League fired a 21-gun salute.
  • “Amazing Grace” was played by the Northport Pipe Band.
