Effie And Her Traveling Quilt

Rotarian Effie Hubert is raising money for the troops by raffling off her beautiful handmade quilt.

Northport , Effie Huber, has embarked on an ambitious project to raise $10,000 to benefit veterans’ projects and American troops. Her means: a stunning handmade quilt.

The Huntington Quilters Guild generously donated squares for the fundraising quilt. Huber then pieced the blocks together in an aesthetically-pleasing pattern, and fashioned the top, back and border while Donna McCallion did the quilting, or decorative stitching, that adorns the finished quilt. The finished product can adorn a bed, be used as a throw on a sofa, or even make a statement as a wall hanging.

Huber has dubbed the beautiful collector's item "the traveling quilt." That’s because the quilt has been making its rounds at various venues where Huber has been selling chances to win the quilt for $1 a pop, or six for $5. You can find Huber and her peripatetic quilt at most , at the Rotary Club of Northport’s on Aug. 11, in the on Cow Harbor Day, and at some Northport farmers markets.
