HUNTINGTON STATION, NY — Throughout November, Elwood-John H. Glenn High School students involved in the community service and Italian clubs have been bringing in brown paper bags filled with non-perishable food items to donate to Long Island Cares Inc. in Huntington Station, the school district announced in a news release.
Students, armed with grocery lists and brown paper bags, went shopping for the food pantry. Long Island Cares will donate each bag, stuffed with essentials, to families in the community and surrounding areas who need help.
Overall, students collected 85 brown paper bags containing more than 895 pounds of food — the school’s largest food pantry donation to date, according to Italian club and community service advisor Eléna Jersey.
