Elwood John Glenn Trio in East Meets West

O What a Night!

East Meets West conjures up visions of where lands west of the Khyber Pass empty into the Hindu Kush or where the Ohio river rendezvous with the mighty Missouri and Mississippi rivers or to the more well-traveled Long Islanders such as us, the Suffolk-Nassau county line. Last night (April 2, 2018), East Meets West was a Cultural and Musical Exchange held at the Tilles Center for Performing Arts, LIU Post, NY. Featuring members of the LIU Post and National Taipei University of Education Choruses, the program also featured Elwood John Glenn High School (JGHS), one of the only two high schools on Long Island on this prestigious program. Karen Gellert, Professor of Double Bass, LIU and music teacher/ Orchestra Director at JGHS along with Sasha Jamal (violin) and Rithika Narayan (viola), 9th graders JGHS, represented us Elwoodians exceptionally well! In fact Prof. Gellert did double duty- double bass in one hand and her disciples in the other - Prof. Gellert was the only high school music faculty member playing on stage. As those notes resonated throughout the 2,200 seat auditorium, one could certainly appreciate that East met West right here on Long Island last night.
