Elwood Residents to Vote on Revised District Budget Tuesday

The original proposed budget was defeated by voters during a May election.

Residents in the Elwood Union Free School District will once again take to the polls Tuesday, June 21 to vote on the district’s revised budget.

The original proposed budget was defeated by voters during a May election.

The revised budget is within the district’s tax levy cap of 0.657 percent and is $432,810 less than the original proposal.

Polls will be open from 2-10 p.m. at Elwood Middle School.

If residents filled out an absentee ballot for this election, it must be received by 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The proposed $59,891,409 million budget was defeated by a margin of 1,132 yes votes to 805 no votes. The tax levy, which exceeded the state's tax cap, meant voters had to approve the budget by 60 percent. The budget was short of passing by just 31 votes. The proposed budget was a 0.68 percent increase in spending over the current year and it came with a 1.88 percent tax levy increase.
