Elwood Sends 8 Orchestra Student-Musicians To LIFSA Festival

The students were selected for the annual Long Island String Festival Association's annual January ensemble festival.

ELWOOD, NY — Eight Elwood student-musicians were recently selected for the annual Long Island String Festival Association’s January ensemble festival, the Elwood School District announced.

The top orchestra students from across Suffolk County were selected to be a part of the prestigious festival. Over the course of a weekend, students participate in two rehearsals and a concert performance.

Elwood's selectees include Anthony Bell (violin), Giuliana Brown (violin), Benjamin Fuchs (violin), Louise Hartough (double bass) and Raim Kim (violin) from Elwood-John H. Glenn High School; Margarita Agrawal (viola) and Irena Yeung (violin) from Elwood Middle School; and Lukas Davis (viola) from James H. Boyd Intermediate School.

“The selection process is competitive and our students being selected is a testament to their hard work and dedication to their instrument,” said Diana Gotzen-Berg, the orchestra director for grades 5 through 8.
