Elwood Student Musician Earns Prestigious Award
This award is presented to the student who made the most outstanding achievement in performing arts.

Brandon Nichol, an Elwood-John H. Glenn High School senior and talented student musician, was presented the Seymour Weiner Scholarship Award by Nassau BOCES Long Island High School for the Arts.
As one of the most prestigious annual awards presented by the LIHSA for its graduates, the Seymour Weiner Award is in memory of Seymour Weiner, a former Nassau BOCES Board member from 1979-88. The award is presented each year to the student who made the most outstanding achievement in performing arts.
During the awards ceremony, LIHSA Interim Principal Jack Lenson described the criteria that Nichol met to be the recipient of this award. As a featured guitarist for the LIHSA’s jazz band, he has performed at numerous events including the Crest Hollow Country Club for the Nassau Region PTA Presidents and Principals Dinner, the Nassau BOCES Education Partner Awards Dinner, all Inter Arts and end of the year performances.

“He is passionate about his craft, is dedicated to achieving excellence and appreciates those who have contributed to his growth as a musician,” said Lenson. “In his desire to excel, he studies ‘the great ones’ to learn and emulate elements of their style that he can incorporate in his own playing.”
Nichol will attend Five Towns College in the fall on a scholarship for jazz performance. Congratulations on receiving this exceptional honor.
