Elwood Students Transform Into Historical Figures

Students brought history back to life. Can you guess who some of the students were dressed as based on the photos?

Third-grade students at James H. Boyd Intermediate School brought historical and famous figures to life during the seventh annual Living History Wax Museum event Monday.

Students in Liz Held's and Beth Noon's classes stood dressed as the famous person he or she chose to cover, with a poster board and props that helped them best represent the person.

The famous figures ranged from scientists and inventors to famous athletes and entertainers. During the six-week project, the third-graders researched their historic or famous figure and created a timeline of the person’s life including his or her accomplishments and where they were born.

Simulating a machine that provides information, attendees deposited a coin into a container that was placed in front of each student, which activated the “machine” to share facts about the historic or famous person. Through the coins collected, the event raised more than $250, which will be donated to charities connected to people the children researched.

With help from their teacher, each student also created a website, where they shared information about the person and a video that featured the student performing his or her presentation.
