Superhero Lawn Signs Spotted in Elwood
Elwood, New York. The lawn signs are everywhere! Local Elwood residents may notice that their neighbors’ lawns are sporting signs not typically found in their neighborhoods. Instead of advertising political candidates or home improvements, these signs announce the presence of a local Superhero who, in partnership with Elwood Public Library, helped to win the battle against “Summer Slide,” the foe of parents and teachers across the nation.
Superheroes of all ages received prizes throughout the summer for books they read and an enviable lawn sign declaring “A Summer Reading Superhero Lives Here.” Over 600 Elwood children, teens and adult patrons participated in Elwood Public Library’s Summer Reading Superhero Program that ran from June 29 – August 14, 2015.

Every hero has a story, and this summer Elwood Public Library’s reading program helped to both preserve students’ reading levels and empower them to start the school year well ahead of their non-reading contemporaries.
“It’s so exciting to see the ‘Superhero’ signs around the neighborhood and to know that the Library is an integral part of the community” says Susan Goldberg, Elwood Public Library’s Director.
