Elwood Winter Athletes Honored By Board Of Education

ELWOOD, NY — Exceptional performances from Elwood-John H. Glenn High School winter athletics season were honored at the Elwood School District Board of Education’s March 21 meeting, the school district announced.

First up for recognition were seniors Caroline Mullman and Matthew Pepper, the winners of the 2024 Suffolk Zone Awards. Next, senior fencer Mathias Weber was honored for winning the gold medal in saber at the Suffolk County Individual Championships. Junior Evan Creter was recognized for his success at the New York State Swimming Championships, where he competed in the 100-meter backstroke, 200-meter freestyle, 200-meter medley relay and 400-meter freestyle relay events.

Next to be recognized was John Glenn’s varsity boys basketball team, which made history by becoming League V champions for the first time in 16 years.

In wrestling, juniors and twin siblings Taylor and Tommy Aiello were recognized for statewide success: Tommy battled to a fourth-place finish at the New York State Boys Individual State Championship, while Taylor finished third in the state at the second annual Girls Wrestling Invitational in Syracuse.

Lastly, the school’s varsity boys wrestling team were honored for winning the Section XI Dual Meet Wrestling Championship and being New York State runners up.

"It has been a season marked by dedication, perseverance and outstanding performances across various sports, and I’m immensely proud to highlight their achievements. These remarkable accomplishments would not have been possible without the hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence demonstrated by our student-athletes, coaches and supportive parents. Your collective efforts have brought immense pride and honor to John Glenn High School, and for that, we are deeply grateful."
