Northport Public Library

The Walt Whitman Birthplace Association presents an evening of readings and discussion with poet George Wallace, writer-in-residence at the Walt Whitman Birthplace in West Hills. Mr. Wallace will explore how liberty, fraternity, and equality—the values expressed by writers like Whitman, Emerson, Thoreau, and Twain—have carried through to the works of more contemporary writers like John Steinbeck, Langston Hughes, Frank O’Hara, and Maya Angelou. In 2003, Mr. Wallace was named Suffolk County’s first poet laureate. He is the author of 19 chapbooks of poetry and currently teaches English and literature at Pace University.
