EAST NORTHPORT, NY — A car burst into flames after a hit-and-run Sunday evening in East Northport.
A 2017 Nissan was hit by a car around 6:15 p.m. at Larkfield Road and Allerton Avenue, with the driver driving away, Suffolk Police said. The Nissan then caught fire.
The East Northport Fire Department, led by Chief Steven Macedonio, found the Nissan had a massive engine compartment fire that spread into the passenger compartment. Crews ensured the people in the car self-evacuated, then extinguished the fire. It took about half an hour to douse the flames and get the scene under control. No one was injured, officials said.
