NORTHPORT, NY — An inactive rifle bullet was found in a hallway at Northport High School on Tuesday afternoon, Suffolk police said.

Principal Robert Dennis called police at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday after the round was found in the school, police said.

Authorities searched the building, but nothing of concern was found, News 12 Long Island reported. Police were present at the school on Wednesday, and backpacks and bags were subjected to searches, the outlet reported. Students who left the building for lunch on Tuesday did not return for the rest of the day, according to News 12.
