Israel And Jaycee, 'Best Friends,' Are Northport Adoptable Pets Of The Week

NORTHPORT, NY — Israel and Jaycee, who are best friends, are the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Kittens of the Week.

Israel is between 1 and 2 years old, while Jaycee is 4 months old.

"What happens when an aloof outdoor cat suddenly becomes a mushy indoor cat and then meets a feisty kitten, who almost didn’t make it on the streets? Well in Israel and Jaycee’s case…they become best buddies," said Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue.

Israel originally came into rescue as a trap and release. However in foster care, he proved that although he was timid, he very much enjoyed being pet and spoken to with kindness, something an outdoor cat rarely experiences, according to Wild.

"He was thriving in his foster home, yet something was still missing from his personality. That is until the little firecracker Jaycee came along," Wild said. "Jaycee was rescued from a sanitation yard, almost crushed by machines. A kind gentleman saved him and into foster care he went."

Jaycee's eye was so badly infected, it had to be removed as he was completely blind in it, Wild said.

"He may only have one eye now, but don’t tell Jaycee or Israel that. Jaycee is such a feisty and affectionate little boy. He was such a mess upon arrival and has fought through all his ailments and is a healthy and playful little boy now. Israel seems to have taken him under his wing. They play together, wrestle together, look out the window together … Jaycee was exactly what Israel needed."

They came to the rescue alone and frightened and now they are fun to watch, Wild said. They know what it feels like to have a friend.

"Where one is, you are sure to find the other. We would love for them to stay together…what a happily ever after that would be," Wild said.

They are neutered, have all their shots, are litter box-trained, and micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative.

Northport Cat Rescue Association will be at Cow Harbor Day in Northport this Sunday, Sept. 24.

"Come on down and meet some of our wonderful kittens and cats looking for their forever homes!" Wild said.
