Lally v. Labate: The Race for Third District Republican Nomination

Stephen Labate: The Deer Park resident, 46, is a financial planner and a military veteran. He currently holds the rank of lieutenant colonel. Labate has been called to active service three times since the attacks of Sept. 11, including a lengthy deployment to Iraq. The Republican has made economic matters a major part of his platform, supporting tax cuts and regulation reduction to boost job growth in the private sector. He would rein in federal spending and work to repeal the Affordable Health Care Act, improve border security, strengthen programs for veterans. Grant Lally: The Lloyd Harbor resident, 52, is an attorney who served on the recount team during the 2000 presidential election, assisting George W. Bush. Grant said he also worked with Bush on foreign policy towards Ireland. Lally said he would cut back on regulations and taxes in part to promote job growth. He would also work to repeal the Affordable Health Care Act. In both 1994 and 1996, Lally ran against Democratic Rep. Gary Ackerman, but did not win either time. Lally has picked up endorsements from the Nassau, Suffolk, and state Republican committees, as well as from leaders of New York’s, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Conservative parties.
