'Lonely' Calypso: Northport Adoptable Pet Of The Week

NORTHPORT, NY — Calypso, a calico with gorgeous green eyes estimated to have been born in 2022, is the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Kitten of the Week.

"Would you believe this sweet girl had nine babies and protected them with her life?!" Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue, wrote in an email. "She was the most loving mom, even though she really was just a young kitty herself. Since then, all her babies have been adopted, and now it is her turn."

Calypso loves to be pet, loves to snuggle, loves to play, and loves the company of people, according to Wild. She likes to curl up right next to people who are taking a nap and rest herself.

"Calypso should be an only pet in a home with older children or adults only, because she will hide when there is commotion," Wild said. "We tried to place her in our habitats, but she was so upset there that she had to go back to foster care. It is not always easy to get a cat adopted from foster homes, but we will keep trying until we find her the perfect adopter, she deserves nothing less."

Calypso is spayed, has all her shots, is litter box-trained, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative.

"This sweet girl has been waiting so long for someone to take a chance on her," Wild said. "She does get lonely without company and would love to finally fit into someone's life. If you meet her, she will melt your heart for sure."
