Long Island Women During The Revolution Presentation In Northport

The Northport Historical Society will bring in a specialist to share stories of Long Island women during the American Revolution.

NORTHPORT, NY — The Northport Historical Society will be delving into the stories of Long Island women during the American Revolution between the years 1774 and 1783. This observance of Women's History Month is scheduled for 1 p.m. March 22, which falls on a Sunday, at society's building at 215 Main St., Northport.

The society will welcome Dr. Joanne Grasso into its museum gallery to share the stories of the Long Island women who were on both sides of the Revolutionary War. The event is part of the organization's Sunday at the Society lecture series.

Grasso is an adjunct associate professor of history and political science at the New York Institute of Technology. Considered an "Americanist," she specializes in the areas of the American Revolution, the American Presidency, and the Founding Documents, particularly in political and intellectual history, according to the Northport Historical Society.

The organization is celebrating Women's History Month in March with a variety of programs and exhibits highlighting the contributions of American women to both local and American history. The Northport Historical Society preserves and promotes the heritage of Northport and the surrounding communities of East Northport, Asharoken, Crab Meadow, Eaton’s Neck and Fort Salonga.
