Lotus, Rescued From 'Dire Situation': Northport Adoptable Pet Of The Week

NORTHPORT, NY — Lotus, a 2-and-a-half-year-old female cat, is the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Cat of the Week. She is a long-haired tortie with emerald green eyes.

Lotus was rescued from a dire situation, said Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue. She was found in a small dirty dog crate.

"When the young lady who rescued Lotus brought her home, she gave her a bath and poor Lotus was so filthy the water turned black," Wild said. "She was covered in fleas, too. Underneath all the filth, was a beautiful and petite kitty with the most stunning eyes. She looked up at her rescuer and started to purr."

She was dried off and given a warm blanket, and she curled up and slept snuggly for what was "probably the first time in a very long time," Wild said.

She is gentle and loves affection, according to Wild. She likes to be picked up and purrs all the time. She is currently in foster care where there are children and one of the girls is home sick, and Lotus has yet to leave her side.

"Whatever happened to her, Lotus holds no grudges," Wild said. "She is so grateful to now be safe and loved. We want Lotus to be adopted from her foster home, so that she is never put in a cage again. This sweet girl is very special and deserves a life of love. Please consider meeting her in her foster home."

Lotus is spayed, has all her shots, is litter box-trained, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative.
