Man Tries To Cash Someone Else's Check — Again: Cops

The first incident took place in Hampton Bays and the second, in East Northport, police say

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A man who tried to cash a check issued to another person has done it again in East Northport, police said.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives said they are asking for the public’s help to identify and find the man who attempted to cash a check issued to another person.

A man attempted to cash the check at People’s United Bank, located inside the Stop & Shop on Fort Salonga Road in East Northport at 5 p.m. on April 29, police said.

The man is also being investigated by Southampton Town Police for a similar incident at People’s United Savings Bank, located inside Stop & Shop on West Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays, police said.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information about the incidents can contact Suffolk County Crime Stoppers to submit an anonymous tip by calling 1-800-220-TIPS, texting “SCPD” and a message to “CRIMES” (274637) or by emailing www.tipsubmit.com. All calls, text messages and emails will be kept confidential.
