Man, Woman Face Drug Charges After Police Search Northport Home

Drugs, various drug paraphernalia and an electronic stun-gun were seized from the home Friday morning, Northport Police said.

A man and woman were arrested Friday after the Northport Police Department executed a search warrant on a Northport home and recovered drugs, various drug paraphernalia and a weapon, authorities said.

Shamari Williams, 26, and Aliza Durante, 20, of Northport, were arrested after police said they seized cocaine, marijuana, an electronic stun-gun and materials that are used to weigh, package and distribute cocaine and heroin from a Prospect Avenue apartment at 6:07 a.m.

Williams and Durante were charged with:

  • Third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
  • Fifth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
  • Seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
  • Second degree criminally using drug paraphernalia
  • Seventh degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • Unlawful possession of marijuana

Additionally, police discovered there was a 5-month-old child living in the apartment and subsequently charged Williams and Durante with endangering the welfare of a child.

Police launched an investigation following complaints from local residents of possible drug activity at this home. Police quickly realized there was drugs being sold from, and around this apartment. It took Northport Police about four weeks to obtain enough evidence to request a search warrant for this apartment.

Williams and Durante are being held pending arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip.
