NORTHPORT, NY — Duke, a playful and affectionate kitten born in August 2025, is Northport Cat Rescue Association’s Kitten of the Week.

“There’s something unforgettable about Duke,” the rescue said.

Born in the quiet safety of a kind resident’s yard, Duke entered the world alongside his two sisters. From the beginning, volunteers said, he showed a protective and attentive nature.

While his sisters have since found their forever homes, Duke is still waiting — “patiently, sweetly, and with a heart full of love to give,” the rescue said.

Volunteers describe Duke as the kind of kitten who seems to understand what it means to be a companion.

He is playful and curious, chasing toys and exploring every corner, but he also brings a strong sense of comfort.

“It seems when you need him the most, Duke becomes pure comfort,” the rescue said. “He’ll melt right into your arms, happily cradled like a baby, belly-up and completely trusting.”

“At night, he curls up close, pressing against your legs as if to say, ‘I’m right here.’”

Duke is not only affectionate — he is also highly social and adaptable.

He adores children, loves other cats, welcomes new people, and gets along well with dogs, according to the rescue.

In his foster home, Duke was surrounded by a variety of animals — including a bearded dragon and a hedgehog — and quickly adjusted.

“That’s just who he is: easygoing, gentle, and impossible not to love,” the rescue said.

Despite his personality, Duke is still waiting for a home.

“Waiting for someone to see him and to choose him,” the rescue said. “Waiting for a place to finally call home.”

Duke is currently at Petco in Commack, where volunteers say he is hoping each day will be the one his forever family walks through the door.

“He is ready in every way except one: he just needs you,” the rescue said. “If you’ve been searching for a kitten with a playful spirit, a tender heart, and a truly special soul, Duke is your boy.”

The rescue is encouraging the community to share his story.

“Somewhere out there, Duke’s forever home is waiting too,” the organization said.

Duke is neutered, fully vaccinated, litter box–trained, microchipped, and FELV/FIV negative.
