Mikey Brannigan Brings Home Another Paralympics World Champs Medal

He medaled in both the 1,500 and 5,000 meter races.

East Northport native Mikey Brannigan took home his second medal of the Paralympics World Championships in Doha, Qatar on Friday.

Brannigan battled through hot and humid conditions, and even led early portions in the race, to finish second in the 5,000 meter race in 15 minutes and 50.99 seconds.

“That race was fun,” Brannigan said. “I’m very happy with how I ran and it was one of my best.”

The winner of the race was Japan’s Daisuke Nakagawa, who ran a time of 15 minutes and 39.43 seconds.

Brannigan will return to East Northport with both silver and gold medals. He became a Paralympics World Champion in the 1,500 meters on Sunday, Oct. 25 by running a time of 3 minutes and 56.50 seconds. Watch the race here.
