Newest East Northport Fire Chief Follows in Father's Footsteps

Meet the first father and son team to serve as chiefs in the 107-year history of the department.

Recently installed East Northport fire chief Wayne Kaifler Jr. knows what it takes to properly serve the department thanks to his father.

The 45th fire chief Kaifler Jr. and his dad Wayne Kaifler Sr. became the first father and son team to serve as chiefs in the 107-year history of the East Northport Volunteer Fire Department.

The father administered the oath of office to his son as Kaifler Jr.’s mother Patti and wife Stacie looked on.

Kaifler Jr. has been with the department for 18 years and has served as an officer for 12 years.

Kaifler Sr. served as chief from 2001-2002, has been a Fire Commissioner since 2012 and has served in the department for 32 years.
