Northport Adoptable Pet Of The Week: Coral
Coral, a 10-month-old female, was rescued from a yard after she was found nursing a litter of kittens.

NORTHPORT, NY — Coral, a 10-month-old female, is the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Kitten of the Week.
When Coral was just 8 months old, she was rescued from a yard, with a very special secret, said Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue.
"She was hiding under an old lounge chair, covered in leaves, nursing, and protecting her babies," Wild said. "It was a bitter cold day when Coral and her babies were rescued. As harsh as the elements were, Coral kept her babies safe and warm and was nursing them around the clock. Coral was still a kitten but proved to be a courageous mom as well."

Her kittens are all thriving and beautiful, according to Wild.
"Coral was quite thin and weak when she first arrived," she said. "She was also fiercely protective of her babies. As the days went along, and she started to trust her rescuers, we saw Coral let down her guard and become one of the most affectionate kittens ever. Once she was done nursing, she went into foster care to enjoy some much-needed TLC. She thrived and continued to show us her loving and affectionate side, often jumping up into your hand for pets. She will sleep next to you, purr the moment she is touched, and if you pick her up, she will nuzzle into your neck. Coral is extremely vocal and very playful and silly. She loves to sit in the window on a sunny day, taking in the heat, thankful to never be cold again."

Coral would be best as an only cat and is probably all anyone would ever need, Wild said.
"However, if you have a sweet cat at home and are willing to introduce Coral slowly, she would be OK, as long as you have enough love in your heart and attention to give her as well," Wild said. "She craves it constantly. She is a special soul, and we are so happy to help her find her happily ever after."

Coral is spayed, has all her shots, is litter box-trained, and micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative.
