NORTHPORT, NY — Peaches, a 1-year-old black and white female kitten, was named the Northport Cat Rescue Association's featured pet of the week.

Peaches was rescued from a lumber yard in Huntington as part of the association's trap/neuter/release program. However, Peaches proved herself to be such a sweet and loving cat, she practically begged them to stay and to be adopted into a loving home instead, Lora Wild, a volunteer at the rescue, said.

Peaches is currently being fostered by a wonderful family where her main connection is with a kindhearted 13-year-old girl, and she is doing fabulous, according to Wild.

"She is silly and playful just like a kitten, chasing after a laser light and a feather all over the room," Wild said. "Although Peaches tenses up when being picked up, with some patience and kindness we believe she can overcome this. Until then, she adores human attention and enjoys being petted and is extremely affectionate. She will cuddle up right next to you and take some much-needed naps after life on the streets.

"Peaches is so deserving of a loving home and we hope that the rest of her years will be filled with warmth and safety with a family of her own," Wild said.

She is spayed, has all her shots, litter box-trained, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative.
