NORTHPORT, NY — Buffy and Chad, 4-month-old siblings, are the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Kittens of the Week.

"Buffy and Chad were found by the Northport Yacht Club, hiding by the dumpsters, trying to survive on their own," said Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue. "A kitten alone on the streets is tough, but these 2 were always together, looking out for one another."

The kittens were tough to trap, as they were cautious of everyone and scared of everything, according to Wild.

"How could they not be?" she said. "Just babies less than two pounds trying to survive. When we finally trapped them, into a loving foster home they went. At first, they huddled together, terrified. Slowly with patience and love, our foster mom broke down their walls."

Chad is a complete love bug, according to Wild.

"He is constantly purring and demanding to be pet. Chad will get between his foster mom and a book she is reading to be loved. He wants to be a part of everything, even helping with laundry, sitting on it after it is folded."

Buffy is shy at first, Wild said, and she likes to observe everything that is going on. Once she trusts, however, she also wants affection. She loves to play with her brother, and really seems to need him as much as she needs people, according to Wild.

"Chad and Buffy are very bonded and have been through a lot together. It is truly amazing to watch how trusting they have become and hope that the life they began on the streets is slowly becoming a faint memory."

They are both neutered or spayed, have all their shots, are litter box-trained, and micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative.
