The kittens were abandoned in a store in a utility bag, where they laid for 12 hours. Would you like to adopt them?

NORTHPORT, NY — Garland, Tinsel and Star are the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Kittens of the Week.

Garland, a female cat, and her brothers, Tinsel and Star, have been through "so much," said Lora Wild, a volunteer with the cat rescue. The 8-month-old kittens were abandoned at a store in a utility bag, Wild said.

"They laid in a bag still for almost 12 hours," Wild said. "When the employees for the evening left there was a worker that was still there and they assumed the bag belonged to him. When they came back the next morning, there the bag still laid. When they picked it up, they realized there was something else in the bag and they opened it to find three scared kittens huddled together."

The workers called the Northport Cat Rescue Association, which took the kittens into rescue.

Store cameras showed a woman with a hood drop the bag and run.

"Whether or not that woman was trying to do a good thing or not, these babies are lucky to be alive," Wild said. "They are sweet, as can be, and are all bonded so we would love to get them adopted together. I realize 3 is a lot for someone to take on, so we will do our best…but the most important thing is to find them all loving and safe homes. They hold no grudges, and hopefully as each day passes, the ordeal is becoming a faint memory."

The kittens are all very affectionate, sweet, and chatty, Wild said.

Garland is a petite tabby with patches of beautiful white markings. Tinsel is a tabby and the most outgoing and talkative. Star is the most timid of the trio. He is gentle and has velvety black fur.

"I believe these three are very special," Wild said. "For whatever reason they were put there. Since we don’t know their past, perhaps that woman with a hood rescued them from a situation that was not safe for them. Since we never know what someone is going through, I choose to believe she was desperate and wanted to save these three little angels. This is NEVER the way to handle the situation and so many terrible things could’ve happened to them before they were found. Luckily, the situation turned out the way it did, and they are safe."

The three kittens are ready to restart their lives in a home with a family that will love them forever, Wild said.

They are currently at Petco Commack, snuggled together. Wild encouraged prospective adopters to visit them.

Garland, Tinsel and Star are spayed or neutered, have all their shots, are litter box-trained, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative.
