NORTHPORT, NY — Shadow and Athena, 4-month-old bonded sisters, were named the Northport Cat Rescue Association's kittens of the week.

They were rescued from a lumberyard in Huntington within weeks of each other, both dirty and were scared, until they were reunited, Lora Wild, a volunteer at the rescue, said. Once together, they immediately bonded to each other. Shadow, the more calm of the two, watched over her sister. She has shiny black fur and looks forward to her daily visits from the rescue's volunteers, because she loves to be greeted and pet.

Athena, with her tortoiseshell coloring, is known to be playful and is always looking through her cage for someone to be silly with her, according to Wild.

"It is almost as if Shadow smiles when Athena plays, but sadly these two sweet girls are spending their kittenhood in a cage," Wild said. "They do not know any better, and have no idea what it is like to romp in a room with lots of space, or to cuddle together in someone’s warm cozy bed. Yet they are still grateful to all who visit with them and give them just a tiny bit of attention. They both adore being held and loved, and are purring machines the minute you pick them up. We hope that someone can give them a loving home where they can grow up together. We are certain that if given the chance, they will bring lots of fun and love into any family."

For those who recognize Shadow and Athena, they were the Northport featured pets roughly a month ago.

"We thought they deserved a second chance to be featured because they should not have to spend another day in a cage and are ready and waiting to be adopted," Wild said.

They are spayed, have all their shots, are litter box-trained, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative.
