A high level of bacteria was detected in the water.

FORT SALONGA, NY — Crab Meadow Beach, which is in Fort Salonga, is closed to swimming due to high levels of bacteria being found. The Suffolk County Commissioner's office announced the closure on Thursday. It will stay closed until repeat testing shows acceptable levels of bacteria.

According to Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. Gregson Pigott, "bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat."
