NORTHPORT-EAST NORTHPORT, NY — A Northport-East Northport middle school science teacher has earned one of New York State’s highest honors for STEM educators.

Rachel Gelman was selected as a 2025 New York State Master Teacher, joining an elite network of more than 1,700 K–12 educators from across the state. Kathy Hochul announced the designation and recognized outstanding teachers who exemplify excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education.

According to the announcement, Gelman was chosen for her strong content knowledge, effective instructional practices, dedication to students, and commitment to professional growth and innovation in STEM education.

As a New York State Master Teacher, Gelman will collaborate with educators statewide to share best practices, mentor current and future teachers, and help strengthen the next generation of STEM educators. The four-year designation honors teachers who demonstrate exceptional skill in engaging students and advancing STEM learning through innovative approaches.

The Master Teacher Program, administered by the State University of New York, provides leadership, collaboration, and professional development opportunities that extend the impact of master teachers beyond their classrooms.
